Quick Study Guide – Water Baptism

Bible Studies Quick Study Guides Water Baptism

Note From Special Space –

This Post is getting a lot of traffic because of this powerful testimony, the Lord actually showed someone this Bible Study in a dream… here is the complete testimony…

God is so amazing! Yesterday, a lady was baptized after attending our services for 4 years. She had been baptized in the titles “father, son and Holy Ghost” many years ago, but God began to speak to her about the need to be rebaptized in the name of Jesus Christ. God gave her a dream in which I gave her a pamphlet on baptism with a bunch of different colours on it. She later asked me if I could give her Scripture on baptism. I gave her my Dad’s Quick Study Guide with all the Scriptures on baptism on it with the exact same colours she saw in her dream! The Holy Ghost will lead and guide into all truth, and the Holy Ghost does not accept baptism in the titles! Another sister was also rebaptized after seeing the rebaptism of John’s disciples in Acts 19: 1-6! Today, a lady called me out of the blue and asked if we could baptize her so that she could have her sins washed away, so we had a baptism tonight! You see baptism in the name of Jesus is for the remission, forgiveness and washing away of sin. See Acts 2:38, and 22:16. It is also a command, see Acts 10:48. If you have never been baptized in the name that is above every name, please reach out to me, let’s make sure your sins are washed away!

The Truth about

Biblical Baptism in Name of Jesus Christ

A compilation of scriptures by Rev. Don McQuinn

Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ is for Salvation

Mark 16:15-16  (Jesus said)
15   And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16   He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Note: Not he that believes and is saved should be baptized as some teach!
John 3:5
5   Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus taught the necessity of baptism.

1 Pet 3:20-21
20   Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21   The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Please Note: Once you hear and understand this biblical message of Jesus name baptism for the remission of sins you will never have a good conscience toward God until you obey it.

Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ for the Remission or Washing of Sins (forgiveness).

Acts 22:16
16   And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Calling on the name of the Lord in baptism.

Acts 10:43
43   To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Believers sins are remitted (forgiven, washed away) through his name. This takes place at baptism.   Acts 2:38 (see next column)
Matt 28:19-20 The Great Commission
19   Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20   Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Notice it says name (singular).
Father, Son and Holy Ghost are titles of offices
that God holds, not names.
Compare with Luke 24:47 which is Luke’s record of the same instruction.
We need to obey the command, not repeat words in the command.

Luke 24:47  (Luke’s  “The Great Commission”)
47   And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
This remission of sins is accomplished by baptism in Jesus name.

Col 3:17
17   And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus

Acts 2:38
38   Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Peter was taught for 40 days by Jesus after his resurrection (Acts 1:3), had his understanding opened by Jesus (Luke 24:45), Jesus said the Holy Ghost would lead and guide him in all truth (John 16:13), he was given the keys to the Kingdom. (Mat. 16:19), Jesus prayed for Peter and the other disciples whom He sent into the world and those that would believe on Him through their word. (Jn. 17:17-20)
Peter commanded baptism in the name of the Lord later in Acts 10:48
Peter believed baptism in Jesus name to be for the remission of sins.
Who is wrong, Peter or those who teach otherwise?

Acts 4:10-12
10   Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11   This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12   Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ is to be by Immersion

The very word Baptism means to immerse.
All biblical baptisms were by immersion.
Jesus and Peter both commanded baptism (commanded immersion).
Rom 6:3-5
3   Know ye not, that so many of us as were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4   Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5   For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Our baptism is comparable to his burial.
We obey part 2 of the gospel (burial) when we are baptized.

Col 2:12
12   Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead

Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ is to be Preceded by Believing as well as Repentance.

Baptism is not for infants, but for those who have come to an age of understanding, believed on the Lord and have repented of their sins.
Acts 8:35-40
35   Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36   And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37   And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38   And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39   And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
This is undoubtedly immersion.
Believing was a prerequisite to baptism.

A LOOK AT SOME BIBLE BAPTISMS:

The Jews
Acts 2:41
41   Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Are you gladly receiving this word today?
If they obeyed Peter, (vs. 38) they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

The Samaritans
Acts 8:12-16
12   But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13   Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
14   Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15   Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16   (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Paul
Acts 9:17-18
17   And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18   And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
This scripture could refer to the baptism of the Holy Ghost, however, we can also conclude from Paul’s writings that he practised what he preached.
In Acts 19:1-6 Paul rebaptized some of John’s disciples in Jesus name.
In Rom 6:3 Paul includes himself with those baptised into Jesus Christ.
Cornelius / Gentiles (Next 3 scriptures)
Acts 10:1-6
1   There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2   A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3   He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4   And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5   And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6   He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
Cornelius was a devout man who prayed, gave alms and feared God, yet there was more that he had to do.

Acts 10:33
33   Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
Peter’s reference back to this in Acts 11:14 states “Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.”

Acts 10:43-48 continuing the story
43   To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44   While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45   And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46   For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47   Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48   And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Lydia and her Household
Acts 16:14-15
14   And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15   And, when she was baptized and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
The Jailer and all His Household
Acts 16:30-34
30   And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31   And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32   And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33   And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34   And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Part of believing is being obedient and being baptized.
Crispus and many of the Corinthians
Acts 18:8
8   And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
The Ephesians
Acts 19:1-7
1   And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2   He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3   And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
4   Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5   When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

Baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
They saw their need to be re-baptized properly.
– Sometimes all we need is further explanation!
Many Pastors world wide are re-baptising their congregations in Jesus name!!
The Galatians   (reference to)
Gal 3:27
27   For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
This is how we put on Christ!

Romans  (reference to)
Rom 6:3-5
3   Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4   Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Truth or Tradition
Col 2:8-12
8   Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9   For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10   And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11   In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12   Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

I Jn 4:6
6   We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth  us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Those that discount the authority and trust given the Apostles by the Lord, and choose to repeat Jesus’ words in Mat. 28:19 rather than obey them as the Apostles did and taught, are not of God but have the spirit of error.

Mark 7:13
13   Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Which do we love more, tradition or truth?
This is not salvation by works but rather required obedience to the Gospel.
Jesus gave his life on the cross for you and me, he died, he was buried, and he rose again, all that we might have life and more abundantly. If we would only obey his gospel plan of salvation letting go of our sin, our pride, our tradition

Summary

From these scriptures we see that the Word of God is very clear on the doctrine of baptism:
– Baptism is to be preceded by believing and repentance.
– Baptism is for salvation.
– Baptism is for the remission of sins.
– We are to be baptised in Jesus name.
– Baptism is to be by immersion in water.
– It is part of the Gospel plan Death, Burial and Resurrection which we obey through Repentance, Baptism and Receiving the Holy Ghost.
– It is not a method of joining a local church.
– Baptism was not for infants.
We should desire to do things the scriptural way rather than cling to church tradition!
