Behold, the Lamb of God
(Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22)
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
The History of the Lamb
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12; 5-13
Notice:
The absolute horror of slavery…
-
- never owning anything,
- never calling your family your own,
- never having a moment to rest.
- to be at the beck and call of an abusive slave master,
- to never know a moments peace or a thought of your own.
- to be beaten down day after day until your spirit and soul were broken and destroyed by the enemy. till you have lost your identity and your will to live.
- of seeing your children, used and abused with no possible way to protect them from hunger, cold, rape, beatings, and death,.
- to see your infant children killed by soldiers just because they belonged to your tribe.
Israel went down into Egypt a free nation and slowly over time lost their freedom through fear from the nations leaders.
After 400 years of pain, of generations and generations suffering from sorrow, loss of identity and self worth, as they continued to cry out to the Lord, the Lord answered and the time finally came for them to be set free.
When Israel was to be freed from slavery, we see how the Lord brought Moses and Aaron to tell the Egyptian Pharaoh to let God’s people go… and through a series of plagues the Lord showed his power and authority over every Egyptian god. After nine of the plagues had been completed, the Lord was ready for the ultimate plague that would show his judgement upon all of Egypt.
The Lord in one night would destroy Egyptian bondage and set his children free.
For this, the Lord told the children of Israel to chose out a male lamb, with out blemish and keep that lamb in the house from the 10th of the month until the night of the 14th of the month. They were to care for that little lamb in their homes, as you all know 4 days with a sweet lamb in the house everyone would fall in love with the little thing…they would feed it, hold it on their laps, the children would play with it, it would be loved. But then… to deliver them from sin, to deliver them from slavery, to deliver them from the horrors of being under the control of Satan himself… that precious, deeply loved little lamb was killed and the blood was collected and put on the door posts and the header over the door, so that when the death angel was to pass over Egypt they would be spared.
The blood of the lamb was so powerful that death could not touch those who were under it, the blood of the lamb completely delivered the Israelis from the wrath of God upon the sins of Egypt.
Israel then as it exited Egypt after that powerful night began through a series of sacrifices year after year worshipping through the Tabernacle form of worship given to Moses on the mount along with the commandments, shed the blood of a lamb for the atonement of their sins.
Spiritual Truths;
Heb.9:22;b Without shedding of blood is no remission-
Remission; Remission is exemption from the consequences of an offense, forgiveness; pretermission is the suspension of the penalty
The Blood of the Lamb
Jesus, as John the Baptist testified was that Lamb of God that would take away the sins of the whole word.
Jesus as the Lamb of God
Isaiah 53:7, He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
The Blood of the Lamb of God was pure – spotless without sin, and when Jesus laid down his life, as that sinless, lamb of God… he purchased redemption of all who would come to him.
Jesus as Almighty God, come in the flesh, purchased the church with his own blood.
Acts 20:28;Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Heb.9;12
So how is that blood applied to my life today-
Jesus said the night he was betrayed
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matt 26:28
Luke 24:27 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 2;38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Repentance along with water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus is the only way for your sins to be covered by the blood of the Lamb.
it is the only way to escape the slavery of sin, the only way to be delivered from sin, and the only way to enter into the kingdom of God and be free from Satan and the wrath of God that is shortly to come upon this world.
When you have been baptized that blood is a continual cleansing
1 John 1: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
The War on the the Lamb –
The whore of Babylon, the Beast, the False prophet, the complete worldly system, including the rebellious angel from where sin originated, Satan himself, and the 1/3 of the angelic host that followed satan, all these will make war on the Lamb of God.
Ez 28:13Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
The Final Victory of the Lamb
Revelation 17:14
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
So to be free of Satan, be delivered from sin and slavery to sin, to be free of the world and all the evil in it. Repent of your sins and be water baptized in the beautiful name of Jesus Christ to have every sin remitted never to be remembered by the Lord again.
Acts 22;16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
